Getting Started

Connect Flux to Home Assistant, see your Apple Home accessories appear alongside it, then build your first dashboard. You can also explore the whole app with realistic sample data before you connect anything.

Connect to Home Assistant

On first launch Flux asks for two things: your Home Assistant server address and a long-lived access token. Flux validates them by actually connecting before it lets you in.

  1. Enter your server address. Type it however you reach Home Assistant — for example homeassistant.local:8123, an IP like 192.168.1.50:8123, or a Nabu Casa / remote domain. You don't have to type http:// or https://: Flux defaults local addresses (.local, an IP, or :8123) to http and everything else to https. You can also type the scheme explicitly if you prefer.
  2. Create a long-lived access token in Home Assistant. Open Home Assistant in a web browser and sign in, click your name / profile at the bottom of the sidebar, open the Security tab, scroll to Long-lived access tokens, and tap Create Token. Name it (e.g. "Flux") and copy it — Home Assistant shows it only once.
  3. Paste the token into Flux and tap Connect. Tap How do I get this? in the app for the same step-by-step inside the token field.
Self-signed HTTPS certificate If your Home Assistant uses HTTPS with a certificate it issued itself — common for local installs — turn on Allow self-signed certificate (HTTPS) on the connect screen. Trust applies only to your HA server's address. If a connection fails with a certificate or TLS error, Flux points you straight at this toggle.
Your token is stored safely Flux saves the token in your device Keychain, never in plain text. To remove a saved connection, use Forget next to the token field (or the equivalent in Settings).

Apple Home

If you grant Flux access to Apple Home (HomeKit), your accessories show up automatically right next to your Home Assistant entities — no extra setup. Flux lists each accessory with its room and home so it groups cleanly in search and the entity browser, and you can drop it onto a dashboard like any other entity. Apple Home accessories work for control too, with your iPhone / iPad / Apple TV acting as the hub.

Where it works Apple Home integration needs the HomeKit permission on a signed build. Where it isn't available, Flux simply shows no homes and your Home Assistant entities are unaffected.

Create a dashboard & add a widget

When you first connect, Flux auto-generates a Home dashboard from your entities so you're never staring at a blank screen. From there you can build your own:

  1. Tap New Dashboard and choose what to design it for — iPhone, iPad, or Universal (starts on iPhone). You can fine-tune the other device's layout anytime with the iPhone / iPad switch while editing.
  2. Tap Edit to enter edit mode.
  3. Tap Add Widget and pick a type from the grid — Control, Sensor, Gauge, Thermostat, Media, Cover, Irrigation, Map, Stack, Graph, Label, Image, SVG, Camera, Weather, Calendar, Energy, or Clock.
  4. For entity-bound widgets, pick the entity from the search browser (Apple Home accessories appear here too). Media and Weather also let you choose a non-HA source — local Apple Music playback or Apple Weather on this device.
  5. Position and size the widget on the canvas. Tap a widget while editing to open its inspector and adjust its options.
  6. Tap Done when you're finished. Adding a tab, grouping widgets, layers, and auto-arrange all live in the edit bar.

Your connection follows you The server address and token live in the iCloud Keychain, so once you connect on one device, Flux can adopt the same connection on your other devices automatically — onboarding just disappears on the next device. Your dashboards sync across your devices the same way.
